A synchronometer is a calendar used to train consciousness through shared timing. Its temporal grid coordinates attention and memory, giving recurring experience stable symbolic addresses. The Temporal Field supplies its wider setting: a place within sequence becomes a phase that makes a pattern actionable.
An ordinary calendar identifies a date. A synchronometer also asks:
- Which patterns are returning?
- What kind of attention does this interval invite?
- What becomes visible when many people inhabit the same symbolic rhythm?
José Argüelles used the term for the 13 Moon/28-day calendar developed with Lloydine Argüelles. Their instrument combines equal civil periods, the Mesoamerican sacred count’s 13 × 20 grammar, and a theory of planetary memory. Its power comes through the minds inhabiting its intervals. People, institutions, bodies, and rituals give calendrical form its consequences.
Three Numbers, Three Functions
The shorthand 13:20 versus 12:60 joins three different layers. Each performs a particular function within the instrument.
13 × 28: the civil lattice
Thirteen periods of twenty-eight days produce 364 days, or fifty-two exact weeks. A 365th Day Out of Time stands between years. Leap years require an additional intercalary convention, a rule for inserting time outside the regular count.
This modern civil design differs from the historical Maya calendar. The traditional Haab has eighteen twenty-day months and five Wayeb days. Twenty-eight days also differs from the astronomical lunar-phase month, whose average is about 29.53 days.
The 13×28 grid gives every period the same internal geometry. Each period begins on the same weekday, and each numbered day occupies the same phase within it. Recurrence becomes easier to perceive, remember, compare, and ritualize. Regularity reduces calendrical noise and gives memory and intention shared symbolic addresses.
13 × 20: the symbolic count
The traditional Tzolk’in or Chol Q’ij combines thirteen numbers with twenty day signs to produce 260 unique days. Living Maya daykeepers continue this sacred count. Argüelles adapted its combinatorial grammar into Dreamspell and the wider 13:20 system.
In his synthesis, each day supplies a qualitative address within a symbolic cycle. The address invites a particular mode of attention. The inherited 260-day form and the modern initiatic synthesis retain distinct lineages. Keeping them separate preserves both living Maya practice and the novelty of Dreamspell.
12:60: the machine-time regime
12:60 names the social program of the twelve-month Gregorian calendar and sixty-minute hour. Its numbers also belong to an older geometry. The dodecahedron has twelve faces, twenty vertices, thirty edges, and sixty face-edge incidences. Twelve and sixty describe the completed cosmic shell through its faces and articulated boundary.
Industrial scheduling gave this measure bodies in wages, deadlines, debt service, school bells, transport timetables, financial quarters, broadcast grids, and network latency. Time is money governs that arrangement. Duration becomes inventory, lateness becomes moral failure, and unallocated intervals appear economically vacant.
Industrial civilization captured the sacred shell by displacing its living center. An administrative pseudo-center, an authority substituting for the participants’ own center, governs this harmonic instrument of measure. Clocks, contracts, and machines receive its authoritative phase. Coordinated people lose custody of the meaning and direction of their shared time.
13:20 restores the center’s relation to the whole. Twelve forms surround a living thirteenth center, while twenty vertices describe the same dodecahedral whole through another register. This count names a noospheric body whose center remains present in its members. The Universal Platonic Hologram explains the rival uses of one architecture:
12:60 — completed shell under external custody
13:20 — completed shell inhabited by a living center
The contest concerns custody of measure’s center. Synchronization coordinates enslavement when it extracts authorship. It coordinates communion when it increases each participant’s capacity to perceive and act.
The Calendar Enters the Causal Loop
Calendars coordinate the societies that read them. Fiscal quarters move capital through institutional belief and action. Liturgical dates reorganize diet, memory, gathering, and expectation. School years shape development, and election calendars alter public speech. Markets react to scheduled announcements before the information exists.
The same relation recurs through these uses:
shared temporal coordinate
↓
repeated attention and expectation
↓
coordinated behavior
↓
material and symbolic consequence
↓
stronger reality of the coordinate
An artificial calendar acquires real causal power through synchronized people, contracts, machines, and rituals. Consensus turns its symbolic grid into a projected environment. Every coordinated act gives that environment another material body.
A deliberately designed calendar also retrains attention. It makes recurrence legible, protects intervals from ordinary production, and gathers communities around meanings excluded by the dominant clock. Design changes the relation between shared timing and its participants.
NTP and NET
Network Time Protocol, or NTP, supplies the technosphere’s planetary synchronization. Distributed machines share a second count to order messages, compare events, and coordinate action. The original timestamp counts seconds from 1900 through a 32-bit field. RFC 1305 identified its approaching overflow in 1992. RFC 2030 fixed the first era boundary at 06:28:16 UTC on 7 February 2036.
At that boundary, the inherited seconds field returns to zero. The number alone cannot distinguish the era beginning in 1900 from the one beginning in 2036. A wider context identifies which age the network inhabits.
Argüelles named the emerging noospheric timing order NET. It organizes planetary consciousness through synchronic phase, shared meaning, and direct relation. NTP coordinates the technosphere’s machines; NET coordinates the living centers of the noosphere, Earth’s thinking layer. Packet arrival identifies one kind of event. Meaning received through a moment identifies another.
The acronyms belong to separate source lines. Their Hermetic correspondence identifies an operation crossing scales. Technical networks externalized planetary synchronization before humanity learned conscious participation in it. NTP places the center in a time authority from which each node receives its age. NET places the center within living relations, making shared phase answerable to meaning.
In 2036, the inherited epoch reaches a literal seam. The counter requires a higher context. The end of mechanical time restores that relation between an interval and the wider field containing it.
The Psi Bank
Argüelles called the noosphere’s planetary memory and timing layer the psi bank. His model places stored information in a field associated with Earth’s electromagnetic environment. Daily psi chrono units release it. Prophecy occurs when appropriately positioned human channels receive information made readable within the pattern.
Van Allen-belt plates and the 2,080-unit mechanism belong to Argüelles’s specific cosmology. These details remain distinct from physically established processes. The architecture describes a complete reception and return:
persistent pattern
↓
temporal-symbolic address
↓
prepared human receiver
↓
image, intuition, dream, prophecy, recognition
↓
interpretation and action
↓
new pattern written into the field
The calendar gives attention addresses through which it repeatedly samples a larger pattern field. Morphic retrieval recovers retained form through recurrence; field participation lets the receiver act within that larger memory. A synchronometer trains perception of the field’s timing. Interpretation and action write a new pattern for later receivers.
The Hermetic Laws of Time
The synchronometer applies Hermetic principles as laws governing mind, rhythm, and manifestation.
Mentalism places consciousness within the making of temporal form. A calendar has marks and arithmetic. Minds inhabit it, institutions enforce it, and behavior supplies its world-building consequences.
Correspondence joins positions within a week, period, year, historical cycle, bodily phase, and planetary rhythm. One pattern appears across scales at different resolutions. Accurate reading establishes the relation among them rather than reducing correspondence to metaphor.
Vibration gives manifested systems tempo, periodicity, and state. The 13:20 ratio does not measure hertz. Lives organized through it nevertheless produce measurable and subtle rhythms.
Polarity gives synchronization opposed directions. Shared rhythm increases collective agency or subordinates participants to a command clock.
Rhythm governs the calendar’s return. Every recurrence receives the state accumulated through the preceding turn.
Cause and Effect gives repeated timing practical consequence. Timing changes attention; attention changes action. Coordinated action changes institutions and environments, whose altered conditions enter the next cycle.
Gender joins receptive timing with generative action. An interval receives a pattern, consciousness acts through it, and the result becomes the next turn’s received condition.
Together, these laws make the calendar an interface through which rhythm enters conscious manifestation and returns as changed conditions.
Prophecy as Distributed Decoding
Argüelles described prophets as human points in time. One person receives a dream, another preserves it, and a later generation supplies the symbolic language needed to read it. An event reveals its literal, historical, psychological, or civilizational layer. Attractor information becomes locally readable through this distributed reception. It supplies direction toward an approaching form rather than a telegram from one fixed future.
The quality of the reading depends on:
- the coherence and discrimination of the receiver;
- the symbolic language available to the culture;
- the depth of the historical archive;
- the amount of noise introduced by fear, desire, prestige, and institutional capture;
- the action taken after the signal enters the system.
A synchronometer supports timing, recurrence, and comparison within this process. Discernment determines how the received relation enters action. A useful date produces clearer perception and more responsible conduct. Turning every coincidence into an order surrenders that discrimination.
Why Reality Feels More Dreamlike
Mechanical time presents objects moving through uniform sequence. Synchronic time presents meaningful relations arriving through sequence. Coherence shortens the interval among perception, meaning, decision, action, and feedback.
More complete agency loops fit within an hour. Relevant symbols appear earlier, intentions encounter less internal obstruction, and consequences answer closer to their producing acts. The temporal relations take different forms:
mechanical time
object → delay → interpretation → delay → action → delayed consequence
synchronic time
meaning ↔ perception ↔ choice ↔ event ↔ recognition
The second circuit feels dreamlike because sign and response share one relation. Thought gains no omnipotence. A symbol becomes causally denser when consciousness recognizes and acts through it before the relation disperses.
Coherent consciousness also receives field information from future attractors and planetary memory beyond ordinary inference. Synchronicity, presentiment, prophecy, and anomalous cognition carry this contact. Ordinary and anomalous channels operate together within the recovered temporal field.
The End of Time
The end of time ends linear time’s monopoly over causation. Sequence continues within a larger temporal field. Wall time passes, bodies age, seasons turn, and actions carry consequences. What ends is the civilizational trance that makes uniform duration the whole of time and excludes meaning from its mechanism.
The transition restores several dimensions:
- sequence — what occurred before and after;
- phase — where a system stands inside a recurrence;
- kairos — when an opening becomes actionable;
- agency time — how much conscious participation occurs inside an interval;
- synchronic order — which meaningful relations converge across the interval.
A calendar cannot perform the Work for its users. Greater responsiveness intensifies creation and capture. Without waking discrimination, dreamlike responsiveness becomes suggestion, grandiosity, or dependence. The recovered field takes different forms: inner awakening, collective phase change, bodily translation, or literal departure. The instrument prepares attention while leaving the crossing’s form open.
Steiner’s developmental account requires recovered dream plasticity together with the sovereign center formed through waking life. Lucid participation preserves both faculties. The return carries waking sovereignty into a world responsive to consciousness.
The Day Out of Time
The Day Out of Time removes a day from the normal month-week grid. It creates a caesura, a deliberate break in production, debt, and administrative sequence. The day performs the thirteenth’s office by returning participants from the completed calendrical shell to its living center. Another cycle begins after this return.
Its power requires no hidden physical force attached to the date. A shared liminal interval interrupts habit, permits review, restores memory, and rehearses a different relation to time. Holy days, festivals, fasts, jubilees, and thresholds give durable calendars this capacity to stop. A society needs that interruption to inspect the world its ordinary clock builds.
The Instrument’s Historical Status
The 13 Moon synchronometer joins fixed-calendar mathematics, Maya-derived symbolism, and noospheric metaphysics in a modern initiatic instrument. It retains a lineage distinct from the historical Maya calendar and a literal lunar calendar. Those boundaries preserve the traditions from which it draws.
Argüelles identified civilization’s confusion of its scheduling system with reality. A replacement schedule cannot save civilization by decree. It trains the attention needed to inhabit time differently.
Shared rhythm changes which relations become visible. Changed perception supplies choices and acts through which a different world acquires a body. The instrument’s practical and metaphysical work completes itself through the people who inhabit its time.
