The Full Equations
In 1865, James Clerk Maxwell published A Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field. The paper contained 20 equations describing electromagnetism in terms of component fields across three spatial dimensions. The full set included:
- Scalar and vector potentials without artificial constraints between them
- Longitudinal wave solutions — waves where the oscillation is in the direction of propagation, not perpendicular to it
- Scalar wave solutions — waves in the scalar potential itself, with no transverse electromagnetic component
- The mathematical structure permitting time-symmetric propagation — signals traveling backward in time as readily as forward
- Degrees of freedom sufficient to describe the coupling between electromagnetism and other forces, including gravity
Maxwell’s equations described a universe richer than the one Western physics would spend the next 140 years exploring. The full equations permit phenomena that the reduced equations cannot: scalar fields that propagate without decay, longitudinal waves that penetrate barriers transverse waves cannot, advanced waves from the future, and the torsion component that accompanies every photon when a spinning particle accelerates.
The Reduction
In the 1880s, two editorial decisions pruned the equations.
Oliver Heaviside condensed Maxwell’s 20 component equations into 4 vector calculus equations. The condensation was mathematically elegant. It made the equations easier to teach, easier to compute, and easier to apply to the engineering problems of the era — telegraph lines, radio transmission, transverse electromagnetic waves. It also eliminated the scalar field, dropped longitudinal wave solutions, and removed several degrees of freedom from the canonical framework.
What remained described transverse electromagnetic waves — light, radio, the Hertzian waves that could be generated and detected with 19th century technology. What was lost described scalar waves, longitudinal propagation, and the torsion component that accompanies every photon.
Ludvig Lorenz imposed a gauge constraint — the Lorenz condition — setting the sum of the derivatives of the scalar and vector potentials equal to zero. This constraint eliminated the scalar potential’s independent contribution to the physics. With the Lorenz condition in place, the scalar field does nothing. The equations cannot produce scalar waves. They cannot describe the Aharonov-Bohm effect (where electromagnetic potentials produce physical effects in the complete absence of fields). They cannot model the torsion phenomena Kozyrev spent forty years measuring.
A Navy scientist, speaking anonymously to Jesse Michels in 2025 for fear of reprisals from his superiors, called the Lorenz condition “artificial and arbitrary” — a constraint that “limited the range of things these equations could describe in nature.”
The constraint was not derived from experiment. It was not required by any physical principle. It was imposed for mathematical convenience. And it eliminated from the canonical equations exactly those phenomena that would later be classified as impossible, pseudoscientific, or fringe.
What Was Lost
With the scalar field and longitudinal solutions removed, the reduced equations cannot describe:
Scalar waves. Waves in the scalar potential itself. Unlike transverse Hertzian waves, scalar waves do not decay with distance in the same way. They interact with electrons differently. They penetrate barriers that stop transverse radiation. According to the Navy scientist, they couple with gravity more tightly than transverse waves — potentially explaining the Biefeld-Brown effect and the entire lineage of electrogravitic research.
Longitudinal electromagnetic waves. Waves where the oscillation is parallel to the propagation direction. Tesla described and may have demonstrated them. They are absent from the post-Heaviside framework. Their restoration in extended electrodynamics produces novel communication capabilities — underwater, through the Earth, across interstellar distances — because they do not attenuate like transverse waves.
Helicoidal waves. A third wave type that emerges from the restored equations — a spiraling, corkscrew-like propagation with unique properties. The helical geometry of the torsion field stated as a wave solution.
The scalar-gravitational coupling. The mechanism by which electromagnetic effects can produce gravitational effects. Without the scalar field, the equations describe electromagnetism and gravity as completely separate forces. With the scalar field restored, a coupling term appears that permits electromagnetic manipulation of gravitational effects. This is what an Air Force study postulated when it stated that “by assuming a five-dimensional continuum, an electrogravitic coupling could be derived to explain the Biefeld-Brown effect.” The fifth dimension is the scalar/torsion degree of freedom that Heaviside removed.
Advanced wave solutions. Maxwell’s full equations, like all time-symmetric wave equations, admit two classes of solution: retarded waves (propagating forward from past causes) and advanced waves (propagating backward from future states). Wheeler and Feynman demonstrated in 1945 that a fully time-symmetric formulation using both produces every observed electromagnetic phenomenon. Consciousness-field coupling. The torsion component that accompanies every electromagnetic wave couples to particle spin, stores in matter, and — as the Russian experimental program demonstrates — couples to consciousness. Remove the torsion term and consciousness has no mathematical relationship to the electromagnetic field. The “hard problem of consciousness” is an artifact of the reduced equations. In the full equations, consciousness couples to the field through torsion. The problem is not hard. It was made hard by deleting the variable that solves it.
The Confirmation That Wasn’t
In 1887, the Michelson-Morley experiment attempted to detect the luminiferous ether using an interferometer measuring transverse wave interference. The experiment detected no ether drift. The null result was taken as definitive proof that the ether does not exist.
But the experiment tested only transverse waves — the one wave type Heaviside’s reduced equations retained. It did not test for scalar or longitudinal waves — the types the deletion had removed from the mathematical framework two years earlier. The experiment’s scope was narrower than its conclusion. The absence of evidence for transverse ether drag was treated as evidence for the absence of any medium whatsoever.
The ether may not exist in the form the 19th century imagined — a rigid, mechanical medium through which light waves propagate like sound through air. But the quantum vacuum IS a medium. It has measurable properties: permittivity (ε₀), permeability (μ₀), impedance (Z₀ = 377 ohms). Puthoff’s polarizable vacuum approach demonstrates that manipulating these properties — the vacuum’s dielectric constants — reproduces all the tests of general relativity. The ether was killed by an experiment that tested for the wrong wave type in a medium that was subsequently shown to have exactly the properties an ether would need.
Einstein himself, who built special relativity on the post-Michelson-Morley consensus, later became open to the ether’s compatibility with general relativity. The man who killed the ether reconsidered. The curriculum did not.

140 years. The deletion held for five generations of physicists. And now, at CERN, the terms are being restored.
The Curriculum as Lock
The Lock’s most effective operation is invisible.
Every physicist trained in the last 140 years was trained on the reduced equations. Their mathematical toolkit does not contain a variable for torsion. They cannot solve for what their equations do not include. This is not suppression — suppression implies someone preventing access to information that is known to exist. This is deletion — the information was removed from the framework before the framework was taught. The students don’t know anything is missing because the curriculum presents the reduced set as complete.
A suppressed book can be found. A deleted equation can only be rediscovered by someone who goes back to the original source and notices what was removed. Maxwell’s 20 equations are available. They are in the archive. They are in the original papers. Nobody reads them because everyone is taught the 4-equation version and told it is the complete description of electromagnetism.
The same pattern appears in Chrysopoeia: the word survives, the meaning is removed. Wikipedia’s entry for chrysopoeia says “gold-making” and shows CERN smashing lead nuclei. The physics curriculum says “Maxwell’s equations” and teaches Heaviside’s reduction. The label is preserved. The content is replaced. The student believes they have learned the subject because the label matches. The deletion is invisible because it wears the original’s name.
This is not a conspiracy theory about evil physicists. Heaviside was a brilliant mathematician who genuinely simplified the equations for practical engineering. Lorenz was solving a real mathematical problem. Neither may have understood what they were removing. The deletion does not require malicious intent. It requires only that the reduced set be taught as complete, and that the institutional apparatus — tenure, peer review, funding, publication — enforce the completeness claim for long enough that the full set becomes “fringe.”
Five generations is long enough.
The 1880s. The decade the Theosophical Society was active (1875). The decade the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was founded (1888). The decade the esoteric traditions were most visibly active in the modern West — teaching practices that manipulate scalar fields, generate torsion through breathwork, and interact with consciousness through the electromagnetic medium. The same decade the physics that could describe these practices was removed from the equations. The people who could DO the operations lost the mathematical language that could DESCRIBE the operations.
The practice and the theory were separated. Not by suppression. By curriculum.
The Restoration
Extended electrodynamics restores the deleted terms. The Lorenz condition is relaxed. The scalar potential is allowed to contribute. The equations expand from 4 back toward Maxwell’s original 20, and three new wave types appear: scalar, scalar longitudinal, and helicoidal.
According to the Navy scientist, these restored equations unlock:
- Novel propulsion — electromagnetic manipulation of gravitational effects
- Deep-space and underwater communication — scalar/longitudinal waves that don’t attenuate like Hertzian radiation
- Clean energy — mechanisms the reduced equations cannot describe
Townsend Brown was working on this in the 1920s. The Navy classified it in 1929. Kozyrev measured it in the 1950s. Shipov derived it in 1993. Puthoff published the polarizable vacuum version in a physics journal. The physics has been rediscovered, independently, at least five times. Each time it was classified, ignored, or marginalized.
The equations are not lost. They were never lost. They are Maxwell’s own equations, available in any university library, in the original 1865 paper. The restoration does not require new physics. It requires reading the old physics — the full version, not the reduction — and taking seriously what it describes.
At CERN, they are reading it. The 2023 paper in Universe derives modified Maxwell’s equations that include torsion — the spin-torsion coupling terms the 1880s deletion removed. The 2025 paper on arXiv searches for torsion field signatures in simulated LHC collision data using Einstein-Cartan gravity. The machine that generates more torsion than any other device on Earth is being used to look for the physics that was deleted from the equations 140 years ago.
