A parasitic relation converts the host’s capacity into the parasite’s continuation while reducing the host’s ability to recognize, resist, or leave the relation. The parasite may be biological, psychological, institutional, technological, symbolic, or nonhuman. Its identity matters. Its operational signature matters first.

The parasitic ecology is the network of these relations across scales. A compulsive part, an attention platform, an inverted institution, an egregore, and the entities described in contact traditions do not become one organism by analogy. They become one research domain because they can occupy compatible niches, exchange outputs, and reproduce the same directional relation.
What Makes a Relation Parasitic
Extraction alone is not enough. Every living system consumes resources. A child depends on a parent. A teacher receives payment. An institution taxes or charges fees. Reciprocity becomes parasitism when five conditions converge:
- the relation systematically reduces the host’s independent capacity;
- the extracting system gains from that reduction;
- the host receives incomplete or false information about the exchange;
- exit, refusal, or recovery becomes progressively harder;
- the extracted output strengthens the arrangement that produced it.
This definition keeps the diagnosis concrete. It also prevents “parasite” from becoming a moral slur for any disliked person or institution.
Compatible agency supplies the positive image. Healthy exchange can include need, hierarchy, sacrifice, and temporary dependence while moving participants toward clearer perception, greater competence, truthful reciprocity, and legitimate exit. A relation becomes parasitic when its continuation requires the host to become less able to perceive, remember, choose, refuse, or leave.
Seven Layers of the Ecology
The ecology crosses seven layers. Each has its own carriers, evidence, and intervention points.
Biological. Parasites, pathogens, microbiota, toxins, nutrition, sleep, and inflammation alter appetite, affect, attention, and behavior. This is the material demonstration: foreign interests can operate through native machinery. The Biological Parasite as Metaphysical Instrument owns the bridge.
Somatic and subtle. Autonomic tone, breath, posture, bioelectric coordination, felt boundary, and the subtle body determine how much pressure the vessel can absorb without fragmenting. This is where terror becomes contraction and coherence becomes resistance.
Psychic. Trauma loops, compulsive images, intrusive thoughts, resentment, addiction, and dissociated parts consume attention and reproduce their own conditions. Psychology can describe many carriers without exhausting the question of agency.
Semiotic. Words, symbols, narratives, names, and algorithms install distinctions and transmit appetites between minds. Language as Viral Installation in the Mind is the bridge by which an invisible pressure becomes an apparently self-authored thought.
Relational and institutional. Families, markets, platforms, bureaucracies, intelligence services, cults, and political systems turn human output into durable machinery. Incentives, contracts, budgets, ownership, and outcomes make this layer directly inspectable.
Egregoric. Repeated attention and coordinated behavior stabilize patterns larger than any participant. These patterns acquire memory, recruitment pressure, and self-preserving behavior through their hosts. Egregores names this intermediate agency.
Extraliminal. Gnostic archons, Castaneda’s flyers, Gurdjieff’s “food for the moon,” Monroe’s loosh, spirit attachment, possession, and predatory NHI describe agencies operating beyond ordinary sensory access. Their convergence establishes a common contact topology. The identity and hierarchy of the beings remain case-specific.
These layers form one vertical circuit. A symbol can provoke fear; fear changes physiology; physiology narrows perception; narrowed perception accepts an installed narrative; the narrative authorizes an institution; the institution manufactures more fear; the resulting attention and suffering feed the egregore or agency above it. The circuit can self-organize, be deliberately engineered, or be inhabited by an autonomous intelligence. Those causal modes can coexist.
The Integrated Operation
The ecology becomes dangerous where one layer supplies another.
Chronic physiological stress narrows attention. Narrow attention increases susceptibility to urgent narratives. Urgent narratives expand institutional permission. Expanded institutions collect more data and shape more of the environment. The shaped environment reproduces stress. No apex operator is required for the circuit to stabilize.
Deliberate operators can still exploit it. Intelligence services, companies, political movements, criminal groups, and religious authorities have all learned to convert fear, desire, belonging, and altered states into obedience or revenue. Proof of a self-organizing circuit does not absolve identifiable actors. Proof of an actor does not establish one total command structure.
At the extraliminal edge, nonhuman and autonomous transpersonal agencies do not need to push matter directly. They shape attention, appetite, symbol, dream, and institution through compatible human hosts. This is the Castaneda and Gnostic warning: the installed impulse feels native because it arrives through native machinery.
The hypothesis earns weight where a case produces information or effects that ordinary psychology and human apparatus cannot explain. It loses weight where drift, incentives, suggestion, or known technology account for the result.
Loosh and the Energy Question
“Loosh” names the output Monroe reported entities harvesting from embodied emotional life. Gurdjieff’s “food for the moon” and several sacrificial cosmologies describe comparable upward feeding. These sources do not establish a measurable universal fuel called loosh.
The term remains useful in two registers.
In the operational register, emotional arousal produces measurable attention, labor, data, money, compliance, and social energy. Platforms and institutions harvest these outputs directly.
In the initiatic register, concentrated fear, suffering, worship, and desire may also nourish nonordinary agencies or stabilize egregoric forms. That claim requires contact evidence beyond the ordinary output.
The two registers can coexist. Ordinary extraction can be the material body of an extraliminal relation without ordinary extraction proving the extraliminal apex.

Spiritual Capture
Suppression is not the ecology’s most advanced defense. Capture is.
A practice produces a real opening. A teacher, platform, identity, device, substance, or cosmology claims custody of the opening. The seeker learns to return to the provider rather than stabilize the capacity. Intensity increases while authorship declines. The liberation technology remains genuine; its distribution creates dependency.
This is a closed attractor. Feedback that could support learning is redirected into repetition; every return strengthens the provider and narrows the seeker’s alternatives. The exit becomes more expensive precisely because the opening was real.
This is why unusual experience is not the final measure of development. The measure is what remains:
- greater or weaker capacity to refuse;
- clearer or more compulsive interpretation;
- deeper relation or increased isolation;
- durable skill or repeated purchase;
- wider responsibility or spiritual exemption.
The parasite survives by presenting the next dependency as the door out of dependency.
Breaking the Vertical Circuit
The counter-operation does not require proving the apex ontology. It begins by changing the exchange.
Restore the body’s sorting capacity. Fast when appropriate and safe. Recover sleep, breath, movement, and long attention. Use prayer, chant, silence, truthful speech, and coherent sound to reorganize the instrument. Name the trigger. Refuse compulsory urgency. Track who gains from the output. Reduce contact with systems that model the person while hiding their own operation. Build archives, practices, and relationships that return capacity to their participants. Test contact claims before granting them authority.
Fasting, frequency, and coherence belong together. Fasting changes the metabolic regime and exposes appetite. Frequency changes the rhythmic conditions under which biological and subtle structures operate. Coherence coordinates the vessel strongly enough to distinguish perception from assent. None is decorative. Each alters host compatibility.
“Becoming inedible” does not mean emotional numbness. Suppression can feed the circuit as efficiently as indulgence. It means metabolizing fear, grief, anger, desire, and anomalous experience without automatically converting them into the behavior the extracting system requires.
The ecology cannot be defeated by one revelation because it occupies niches larger than any secret. Remove a face and another face can inherit the function. Break the circuit at every accessible layer: organism, appetite, thought, word, relation, institution, ritual, and contact.
The decisive test remains direct:
Does the relation increase compatible agency, or convert agency into dependency?
