The soul’s preparation for communion

¶19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 19:2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 19:3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 19:4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 19:5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
¶19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
¶19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Praise restores the source of collective life
both small and great
All ranks share the recognition of divine sovereignty. Praise gathers distinct capacities into an allegiance beyond their competing claims.
Back to these wordsPraise restores the source of collective life
The heavenly multitude recognizes God’s judgment of Babylon. Elders and living creatures answer from around the throne. Their praise gives collective voice to the source that Babylon had displaced. The whole field returns its allegiance to divine life.
The multitude is collective consciousness restored to recognition of its divine source. Its praise reverses the allegiance gathered around Babylon’s desirable image. Elders and creatures retain their different capacities while answering that restored center. Shared life becomes possible through communion rather than a bargain among competing appetites.
The many voices make recognition an embodied spiritual act within the vision. Inwardly, the soul’s powers cease treating their private demands as separate ultimate authorities. Outwardly, persons can now cooperate around a life they receive together. The coming marriage gives this restored relation its generative form.
The repeated Alleluia makes recognition into an act shared across ranks. Small and great join the same relation. Its inward counterpart is the soul’s several powers acknowledging one spiritual source. The restored center allows those powers to cooperate without being governed by the city’s consuming desire.
The soul becomes capable of divine union
the marriage of the Lamb
The prepared human soul and community enter communion with Christ’s divine life. Righteous conduct supplies the garment through which that union can be borne.
Back to these wordsThe soul becomes capable of divine union
The Lamb is Christ’s divine life carried through death. The bride is the human community prepared to receive that life. Inwardly, she is the purified soul capable of communion with its spiritual source. Marriage joins those lives through reciprocal participation.
The bride is receptive humanity made capable of receiving Christ without turning his life into another possession. Within a person, she is the soul after purification of the desires that distorted reception. The Lamb supplies divine life with the power to pass through death. Marriage joins that source to a vessel able to answer freely.
The linen is the body of conduct the soul has actually formed. Righteous deeds make reception durable because perception, speech, and action no longer work against the sought presence. The supper brings this union into shared nourishment. Sacred marriage must feed a living world rather than remain a private image of spiritual perfection.
The white linen is righteous action made into a garment. The soul’s preparation must therefore enter conduct, rather than remain a private aspiration. The supper makes union nourishing and shared. The practical work purifies desire, speech, and action until the person can bear the presence sought in prayer.
The messenger refuses possession of worship
I am thy fellowservant
The angel shares service to God with the human witness. Guidance must preserve that common relation rather than capture worship for itself.
Back to these wordsThe messenger refuses possession of worship
John falls before the angel, who tells him to worship God. The angel is a fellow servant of the same divine life. Contact with a spiritual messenger does not make that messenger the ultimate source. The correction preserves the encounter’s proper relation.
The angel is a spiritual mediator whose service preserves access to the divine source. Accepting worship would capture that access around the mediator’s identity. His refusal therefore belongs to the encounter’s truth. The witness receives guidance without handing the source of spiritual life to the being who communicates it.
Testimony to Christ is the living relation prophecy must carry into speech. A message can describe extraordinary matters while directing attention mainly toward its messenger. The practical test concerns what remains free after contact. A trustworthy guide develops the receiver’s responsibility instead of requiring permanent dependence on the guide’s presence.
The spirit of prophecy is living testimony to Christ. Prophecy arises through service to the Word rather than personal exaltation. The practical act is to recognize a guide’s function without making the guide the owner of one’s spiritual life. Reverence must remain directed toward the source the messenger serves.
The soul’s preparation for communion
The marriage makes the purified human life a dwelling for Christ. Its garment consists of righteous acts, and its meal supplies shared nourishment.
The angel’s correction keeps that communion directed toward God. Even a genuine messenger must preserve the relation rather than become its final object.

¶19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
¶19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
¶19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

The Word carries purified power into conflict
The Word of God
Christ is the divine creative life acting personally within the vision. His speech exposes false sovereignty and makes spiritual judgment effective.
Back to these wordsThe Word carries purified power into conflict
The white horse is the purified vitality that carries the rider’s spiritual will. The rider is Christ, named Faithful, True, and the Word of God. Fiery eyes penetrate deception; many crowns disclose sovereignty over competing claims. His unshared name preserves an identity beyond external possession.
The horse gives illumined spiritual intelligence an embodied power of movement. White marks vitality purified from the demands that formerly directed it. The rider is Christ as the active Word, bringing divine judgment into a world where false allegiances still possess force. Perception and will now share the same governing source.
The secret name keeps the rider’s being beyond possession through an outward formula. The many crowns acknowledge authority over divided claims without dividing that being among them. His spoken sword reaches the falsehood directing action. The work must change that directing relation, rather than merely suppress the bodies carrying its effects.
The sword comes from his mouth because the Word exposes and divides false allegiance. The iron rod gives that judgment effective command. His bloody garment retains the cost of the passage through death. The inward operation joins truthful speech to purified will, allowing spiritual discernment to transform the forces that previously carried desire.
The rider also discloses the illumined mind directing the soul’s purified forces. Clear spiritual perception now governs the vitality that formerly carried divided desire. The horse gives that perception a power of movement within the world.
The counterfeit feast returns its bodies to nature
the supper of the great God
The feast dissolves the bodies of counterfeit sovereignty. Their substance returns to a life that their ranks can no longer command.
Back to these wordsThe counterfeit feast returns its bodies to nature
The birds receive the flesh of rulers and their forces. This supper reverses the marriage meal: one nourishes communion, while the other dissolves the order that resisted it. Rank no longer protects a body from mortality. The spectacle removes domination’s claim to enduring substance.
The birds return flesh to the wider life that rank cannot own indefinitely. Their supper exposes the mortality hidden beneath the rulers’ claims of enduring supremacy. The marriage feast builds a vessel for communion; this feast dissolves vessels organized against it. The opposed meals disclose what each form of life has become capable of receiving.
Inwardly, a ruling self-image loses the vitality that sustained its appearance of permanence. Repeated resentment can keep supplying that vitality after its practical authority has ended. Release allows the old form to cease organizing attention. The freed capacity must then enter living relations rather than remain bound to watching the former ruler fall.
The inward counterpart is the disintegration of identities built entirely around command and opposition. Their supports return to the wider life they had appropriated. The practical work permits false claims to lose their invested vitality. Continuing to feed them through fascination can preserve the order after its authority has failed.
The sources of deception enter transforming fire
the false prophet
The false prophet makes domination appear divinely authorized. His defeat must accompany the beast’s defeat, or the sacred justification can recruit another ruler.
Back to these wordsThe sources of deception enter transforming fire
The beast and false prophet gather resistance, then enter the lake of fire. These are the powers of domination and deceptive sacred mediation disclosed in chapter 13. The Word ends their effective claim. The remaining army falls through the sword of speech.
The beast is domination embodied as collective command; the false prophet is the spiritual mediation that makes that command appear rightful. Their common defeat reaches both the coercive body and its sacred justification. Leaving either relation intact would allow the other to rebuild. The fire ends their effective claim within the vision’s sequence.
The lake is a sustained condition in which the old forms cannot regain their previous life. Its fire exposes the consequence of allegiance organized against divine communion. The inward work likewise requires more than an episode of relief. Purified will must cease giving the former rulers the repeated acts through which they returned.
The fire reaches the living sources of the counterfeit order. Judgment therefore goes deeper than changing its personnel. Inwardly, the governing appetite and its justifying voice must both lose command. Sacred union becomes stable as divine life transforms the conditions through which opposition had repeatedly restored itself.
The Word ends the counterfeit sovereignty
The rider brings divine life into effective conflict with domination and its sacred justification. Purified vitality carries a will governed by the Word.
The two suppers disclose opposed destinies for the human world. Prepared life joins communion; the order sustained through false command loses the forms that carried its power.
