The research operating system has one function: preserve the strange signal while making the argumentative chain inspectable. The library needs enough structure for a reader to move from a raw fragment to a timeline, an actor map, a claim chain, and a finished essay without flattening symbolic material into premature literalism or letting literal claims drift without evidence.
The operating layer has five parts. Core Map defines the major architecture hubs. Claim and Evidence Discipline separates documented fact, inference, mechanism, and symbolic reading. Timeline Index gives every event a place in time. Research Atlas inventories the present content by category and hub. The type pages - Claim, Source, Timeline Event, Architecture, and Theory Card - give future notes stable shapes.
Operating Principles
Every major idea should have a hub. A hub is a navigational and argumentative center: what the idea is, why it matters, which pages carry it, what evidence is strongest, what claims remain weakest, and which open questions would change the map.
Every strong claim should expose its evidence posture. A claim can be documented, inferred, modeled, symbolic, experiential, or speculative. The labels are not a hierarchy of permission. They prevent a documented mechanism, an inferred pattern, and an esoteric correspondence from being read as the same kind of assertion.
Every event should be timeline-ready. A date can be exact, approximate, bounded, cyclic, or windowed. A date can also have confidence. The absence of certainty should be visible as metadata rather than hidden in prose.
Every symbolic pattern should retain its double aspect. The alchemical, initiatic, occult, and mythic layers remain active readings, but each should be linked back to concrete mechanisms wherever possible: institutions, incentives, technologies, bodies, texts, rituals, calendars, money, and attention.
Every publishable path should be marked. A note can be Seed, Developing, Canon, or Paper Candidate. The label is a workflow state, not a verdict on truth.
Workflow
A fragment enters as a Source or a seed note. If it makes a testable or load-bearing assertion, it becomes a Claim. If the claim depends on sequence, it receives one or more timeline events. If several claims share mechanism, they attach to an Architecture. If the mechanism recurs across domains, it becomes a Theory Card. If the chain becomes stable enough to carry a reader, it receives a canonical owner in Framework Dependency Map or becomes a paper candidate.
The workflow preserves ambiguity by naming it. The strongest position is not the one that collapses every pattern into a single explanation. The strongest position is the one that can hold documentary evidence, operational inference, and symbolic resonance in parallel until the weight of the evidence justifies a collapse.
Publication Pathway
Seed notes hold fragments, intuitions, unresolved correspondences, and early captures.
Developing notes have a thesis and links, but still need source work, counter-reading, or tighter mechanism.
Canon notes carry a stable treatment that can be linked without caveat inside the graph.
Paper Candidate notes have enough evidence, internal structure, and argumentative sequence to support an essay, paper, briefing, or book chapter.
Maintenance Rhythm
A useful pass begins with the atlas: identify unmapped pages, pages without hubs, pages with weak references, and clusters whose repeated vocabulary lacks a theory card. The next pass strengthens links and evidence labels before prose polish. A final pass checks banned self-reference, broken wikilinks, frontmatter completeness, and whether any load-bearing claim has drifted beyond its evidence.
